First hamfest of the year

It was scheduled to be in the Legion hall in Onalaska (suburb of LaCrosse), but due to inadvertent double booking it was moved to the Legion hall in Sparta at the last minute. The reason I know this is the club secretary, who was in the parking lot in Onalaska to redirect strays (such as myself) who had not gotten the word. (Thank you! Done in the finest tradition of ham club secretaries! You rock!) So, meh, I got there 15 minutes after it opened instead of 15 minutes before.

Commercial activity (a.k.a. Retail Therapy)

Bought a Ten-Tec Argonaut V, another Simpson 260, and a nice person gave me a handful of little 3D-printed dipole center insulators.Oh, almost forgot the laminated world map. And a couple of raffle tickets to support the club’s emcomm bus.

Other activity

These days I seem to spend at least half my time at hamfests just chatting with fellow hams. The ARRL was well represented, not just Jason the Section Manager (KC9FXE) and associates but an actual DXCC Card Checker! I was particularly pleased to see a stack of Pink Cards (long out of print) on the League table; Jason had found a sample and had 500 printed at his own expense, bravo! I spent a lot of time searching my pockets for my ticket stub (never did find it, lol) but because I wrote my name and callsign on the back I won a copy of Bob Heil’s Ham Radio Handbook anyway. (Thanks again MVARA!)

After the last drawing

I elected to take the long way home via Hwy 27 and the Viroqua Food Co-Op, to re-stock the home with fresh vegetables, in lieu of doing a POTA activation. (I had brought the radio pack along, just in case.) A long day, but an enjoyable one!
