It seemed a little weird, is all; the last two times I went to activate Buckhorn State Park something interfered and no activating happened.
Yesterday I decided to invoke the “third time lucky” clause and went back. The day started out lightly overcast and a bit below freezing, but the sun broke through early and it warmed up steadily all day. Everything went well this time! Self-spotting produced a steady flow of hunters for about 20 minutes, then tapered off. Last call; QRT. Take down, pack up.
I had always been aware that besides the park itself there were two other POTA entities present; Buckhorn State Wildlife Area (US-12077) and Yellow River State Wildlife Area (US-4346), and an idle glance at the map on my phone showed that one of them was less than a mile away. I drove over there and had a look around, then started setting up the Buddipole again. Soon US-12077 was on the air!

After self-spotting, business was brisk, but I was growing uncomfortably aware that it was afternoon, and quite a few hours after a light-ish breakfast, so at a convenient break in operation I once again did “last call” a few times and went QRT. Take down, pack up.
I considered the third entity for a couple moments but heeded the call of lunch, compromising on a short detour to scout the area for the future.

Some day real soon I will try all three in one day, and bring lunch with me!
