a Black Friday tale …

Ever since the moment I saw it, I have wanted an Elecraft KH1, and I have held back for one reason or another, time after time, for two whole years!

This video: “Wayne Burdick N6KR Elecraft Cofounder Talking About the New KH1 Transceiver at SOTA Luncheon” is what sold me originally; I just watched it again and I am still struck by the attention to tiny details that make it so uniquely functional for portable operating. Thanks for putting all of your field experience into the design, Wayne! I’m so looking forward to using this radio!

Well, over the weekend (tempted by a Black Friday discount and free shipping) I took the plunge and ordered the whole Edgewood package (everything needed to have a full station in my pocket), plus the 40 meter extender and the right angle adapter.

That was Saturday for the KH1, and Sunday for the extras; it’s late Monday afternoon and everything is about to ship! Wow! Elecraft, you rock!

Back 2 years ago there would have been a wait, Elecraft was swamped with early orders; I’m glad to see that they are in stock now. Yay! Woohoo!

Update, mid-afternoon: package is now in the hands of UPS!

Update, Tuesday morning: it passed through the local depot last night & on its way to Wisconsin!

Thursday evening update: a bit after 3 pm it was in Hodgkins, IL, a major hub; hopefully it will be in Baraboo early tomorrow morning.

Friday early morning update: package arrived in Baraboo between 2 and 3 am.

Out for delivery, all morning, until it arrived about 1 pm.

Watch for an update on the weekend, and thank you for visiting driftlessqrp!

Pretty representative of conditions across the Driftless today. We’ll see how the weather looks when the weekend rolls around …
