Winter is coming

and I don’t mean that in some dark, apocalyptic Game of Thrones way.

It seems like every passing day brings some new sign of the change of seasons.

It’s over two weeks since I saw the first bright red fallen leaf while I was hiking.

Last weekend, at Camel Bluff, I noticed that the sumac bushes were just beginning to change to their brilliant red autumn color.

This morning at dawn the temperature on the deck was 34 degrees! (by mid-afternoon it will be up to 70, , but still …

Well, the weather has returned to more typical late-summer conditions: (59 degrees at dawn, 86 degrees for the midafternoon high) but all of the indications of advancing autumn are multiplying daily. Some early-bird trees are changing color, and a few yards are even getting Halloween decorations.

I suppose that the equinox coming up in a week might have something to do with this …
