Last weekend I was feeling like going to a new park, and I thought I would try Pinnacle Rock SFWA, a bit north of Cashton, again. I went there last fall, but the parking area was full; a lot of people out fishing that day!

No sign of a pinnacle rock anywhere, however.
This time I was the only one there! I set up as I usually do; vertical whip antenna and the X6100. Worked one park-to-park while tuning across the band, then I found a clear frequency and started calling CQ. Although there was some fading, and a lot of static crashing, hunters soon started calling me. I picked up a handful of contacts, but all of a sudden someone somewhere else set up on the same frequency and I had to move elsewhere.
A park operator closed up while I was listening, so after a few QRL calls I started calling again, and got a P2P twofer before adjacent QRM sent me off hunting again.
Found and worked another park, then I came across an operator in Wyoming with a 6-fer! Wow, that’s a new record for me! That got me over the line for a valid activation, so I just hunted a few more parks and called it a day (and lunchtime!).

It was a nice day for a drive in the country, with lots of coffee and radio! Operating from a park I never activated before checks off an item from my New Years resolutions, too!
